Magical Museums: Buckland Museum of Witchcraft and Magick

The Buckland Museum of Witchcraft and Magick was originally started by Raymond Buckland in New York in 1966. The museum and its collection was moved around to various locations, including New Hampshire and New Orleans, before being re-established in Cleveland, Ohio.

The museum houses Raymond Buckland‘s personal collection of witchcraft artifacts from all over the world, as well as items from other prominent figures in the Pagan community. For those who are not familiar, Raymond Buckland was credited with bringing Wicca to the United States, and many cite his books as laying the foundation for their practice.

One of the things I really loved about this museum is that it told the story of witchcraft throughout different cultures and time periods in a very accessible manner. If you have the slightest interest or curiosity in magic or the occult, I encourage you to come here with an open mind.

Highlights:

  • Has both a museum and a shop – the shop has tons of books and crystals
  • Incredibly knowledgeable and personable museum owner/curator full of fun facts and anecdotes
  • Unique collection of historical artifacts you won’t find anywhere else
I couldn’t resist buying this unicorn horn shaped selenite crystal and Quija altoids
