Eat the Rainbow: Rainbow Sourdough Bread
There’s something magical about creating something with your own hands – especially when it’s rainbow sourdough bread! I’ve found baking bread is incredibly therapeutic and a great way to pass the time. If you like this recipe, check out the rainbow swirl bread recipe, too!
To make this bread, follow your favorite sourdough bread recipe. I followed this one from An Oregon Cottage.
You can either mix food coloring after you’ve made the dough or at the beginning when you’re mixing all the ingredients.
Personally, I find it a lot easier to mix in the food coloring at the beginning. I mixed the ingredients into 3 separate bowls to create 3 small dough balls – pink, yellow, blue. I then stacked these dough balls into the same bowl to rise. Instead of kneading, I followed the “stretch and fold” method. This is how the original colors I used combined to create new ones without turning into grey or brown.
While bread baking can be a time-consuming process, it’s also pretty fun. I usually make my dough in the morning, stretch and fold it throughout the day as it’s rising, and then bake it for lunch or dinner.
Baking this colorful bread brought a smile to my face, especially when I cut into it and saw the different ways the colors mixed together. I highly recommend giving it a shot!
