5 Magical Things to Do in Maui
I’ve dreamed about going to Hawaii for the longest time. Earlier this year, that dream became a reality. My husband and I celebrated my 30th birthday and a very belated honeymoon in Maui. This post is all about the magical things to do in Maui!
Be sure to check my post about how to travel hack your way to Maui, too!
As someone who tends to run a million miles a minute, I appreciated the laid back island life. I had an absolutely amazing time and wanted to share some highlights of our trip.
Swimming and Snorkeling
One of the downsides of living in Las Vegas is that there aren’t any beaches. As a California native, I practically grew up on the beach and was eager to get back into the water. I was absolutely blown away by how different the beaches on Maui are. The water is so warm and clear, and there isn’t any trash littering the sand. Of all the spots we went to, we loved Molokini, Kapalua Bay, and Napili Bay.
Molokini is a partially submerged crescent-shaped volcanic crater located between Maui and Kahoʻolawe. It’s about a 1 hour boat ride from Maui. The water is so blue and clear!
Kapalua Bay and Napili Bay are right next to each other. They are both white sand beaches located on the north west side of Maui. While the water near the shore is a bit more cloudy, as you swim further out it’s pretty clear and you can see all types of sea life. We actually saw a couple of sea turtles!
Road to Hana
The Road to Hana is a long stretch of highway that takes you from one end of Maui to the other. We wanted to be able to sightsee at our own pace though, which is why we drove instead of going on a tour – even if it mean dealing with numerous one-way bridges and hairpin turns. We downloaded the Road to Hana GyPSy Guide tour app, which was like having our own personal tour guide in the car. The Road to Hana really is all about the journey – it’s breathtaking to see the coastal cliffs, lush rainforests, and rushing waterfalls.
The Banyan Tree in Lahaina
The Banyan Tree is over 60 feet tall and has grown into 16 major trunks. I had never seen this sort of tree before – the roots actually grow downwards from the branches. This area has a definite mystical vibe to it, and I highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area.
Watching the Sunsets
After a busy day of sightseeing and activities, it was nice to take a stroll along the beach and admire the sunsets. No two sunsets were the same.
