Whimsical Afternoon Tea at Queen of Hearts
As I mentioned in my previous post about the Tea Terrace, I love a good afternoon tea party. I’m not even a huge Alice in Wonderland fan. I liked the movie, but I’ve only seen it once, and I’ve yet to read the book. Still, there’s something absolutely magical about tea parties: the delicate finger foods, the fragrant aroma of steeping tea, dressing up, and lingering over good conversation with friends.
A few years ago, I celebrated my birthday at Queen of Hearts, a tea room in Henderson, NV. One of my friends is the chef and owner, and she’s done an incredible job crafting a space that feels both magical and delightfully over-the-top.
As you might guess from the name, Queen of Hearts takes inspiration from the world of Alice in Wonderland, with a dash of Vegas whimsy. The decor leans heavily into a bold black, white, and red palette and features playing card motifs throughout.
The teapots and cups are charmingly mismatched, featuring butterflies, flowers, and checkerboards. Both the traditional and vegan menus include your choice of tea, a fresh seasonal salad, two warm scones with jam and cream, four savory bites like finger sandwiches or pinwheels, and four sweet treats such as fruit tarts, cookies, or mini cupcakes. Even the food carries the Wonderland theme, with checkerboard cookies, card back designs, and adorable white rabbit cream puffs.
The tea selection is extensive: black, green, white, oolong, and herbal blends. Going with a group is great so you can sample several kinds. I especially enjoyed the celebration tea, rose blend, and vanilla apple hibiscus.
While you wait (or after you’ve eaten), there are plenty of photo ops to enjoy. One corner features a plush, bright red tufted chair surrounded by oversized gift boxes. You’ll also find playful props like clocks, bunny ears, hats, and zany oversized glasses to complete the look.
My friends and I had such a fun time here, and I’d absolutely recommend it if you’re in the area and looking for a magical afternoon. Whether you’re a tea lover, a fan of Alice in Wonderland, or just someone in search of a whimsical escape, Queen of Hearts is a delight.
